Alverta N. (Houck) Gring, 80, died September 6, 2011 in her Wyomissing residence.
She was the wife of Albert H. Gring for 60 years. They were married on December 9, 1950.
Born in Spring Township, she was a daughter of the late Clair and Alice (Myers) Houck.
She was employed by Kelray Knitting Mills and later Cotton Street Knitting Mills. Alverta concluded her work career as a manager for Coin-Op on Schuylkill Ave. for 20 years, retiring in 1993.
She was a member of Calvary West United Methodist Church, Wyomissing.
A fishing enthusiast, she enjoyed spending time Rehoboth Beach, DE. Taking cruises with her husband was another of her delights.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Jeffrey L., husband of Judy D. Gring, Ferrum, VA; three siblings, Sylvester, husband of Alice Houck, Fleetwood, Alice, widow of Robert Bachman; and Lillie Harwood, both of Boyertown. There is one grandson, Paul M., husband of Anna Gring, Rocky Mount, VA; one great-granddaughter, McClain Blair Gring. Several nieces and nephews also survive her.
She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Charles Raezer.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home.
