Alice M. Hughes

Alice M. Hughes, 89, passed away peacefully September 19, 2013 in her Spring Township residence with her niece, Wendy, by her side.

Her husband, Charles L. Hughes, Jr., died January 2, 1990.

Born in Lichtenstein, Germany, she was a daughter of the late Walter A. and Anna M. (Muhlenberg) Meier.

She was employed by Bell Atlantic for over 35 years, retiring in 1979.

Alice was a past secretary for the Bell Telephone Pioneers.

She was a member of West Lawn United Methodist Church where she volunteered often.

Alice was a warm caring person. She loved spending time with her nieces, nephew, and their families. She was a true friend to many people and will be dearly missed.

Alice is survived by her nieces: Wendy, wife of Brian Gaenzle, Sinking Spring and Jennifer Metcalf, Norristown, and her nephew, Jeffrey, husband of Cindy Zimmerman, Sinking Spring. Also surviving are her sister, Ingeborg T., wife of Robert Janiszewski, Sinking Spring and many grand nieces and grand nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, Charles L. Hughes, III, in 1947.

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday at 12 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. A visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the funeral home.
