Alice Louise Forester

Alice Louise Forester, 89, of Phoebe Berks Village, Wernersville, died July 2, 2009 in the Reading Hospital.

Her husband, John D. Forester, died November 13, 2003.

Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late George Frederick DeLong, DDS and Helen D. (Funk) Ramer.

She was predeceased by two sisters: Mary D. Meinig and Jane Giddings.

Alice was a graduate of Mt. Penn High School and attended Albright College. She was an Alumnae Associate and past President of Phi Beta Mu for Albright College.

She was a vice president for American Bank and later Core States Bank until her retirement.

Alice was a former Republican Committee Member for Lower Alsace Township.

The loving matriarch of her children, she was very independent and charismatic. She was an avid reader and loved to cook, recently working on a family cookbook. Alice was a master needleworker and taught beginners knitting at Phoebe Berks. A superb indoor gardener, she loved to tend orchids and african violets .

She is survived by her five children: D. Michael, husband of Patricia, Wyomissing; Mary Alice, D.O., Minocqua, WI; John D., Jr., husband of Nancy, Kenhorst; Thomas D., husband of Brenda, Farmington Hills, MI; and Philip E., husband of Sue Ann, Exeter Township. Also surviving, a nephew, Peter C. Meinig; and thirteen grandchildren: David Forester; Margaret Miller; Peter Forester; Heather Karsten; Brendan Jones; Jason Messinger; Kara Jewell; Ian and Alex Forester; Mitchell and Lindsay Forester; Erin DeWolf; Amy Forester; and nine great-grandchildren: Natalie and Zachary Miller; Oscar and Finley Forester; Nicholas and Jack Forester; Maxwell, Nicklas and Juliette Karsten.

Friends may call Tuesday 8 - 10 a.m. in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. A Memorial Service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Phoebe Berks Chapel, Wernersville. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Phoebe Berks Village: 1 Reading Dr., Wernersville, PA 19565.
