Alice E. Batchelder

Alice Elaine Batchelder, 63 died May 17, 2010 in her Lower Heidelberg Township residence.

She was married to Dr. Barron M. Batchelder March 22, 1969.

Born December 10, 1946 in Redlands, CA, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Gertrude (Vander Lugt) Van Straten.

Alice graduated from the University of Redlands, CA in 1968 and then took courses to become a Certified Medical Technologist.

She worked as a CMT in Santa Monica, CA and the Reading Hospital. She was then employed by Reading Anesthesia Associates, Ltd. where she worked as the business manager for 10 years before retiring in 1991.

Alice was a member of St. Frances de Sales Roman Catholic Church, Robesonia where she was a co-founder of the women's group and had been a part of a group that tended to and maintained the Biblical Garden at the church.

She was a chairman of Reservation Committee for Holy Name Extravaganza for many years. In addition, Alice was a cub scout committee chairman at St. Ignatius and previously a den mother.

Alice spent 8 years in the Bible Study Fellowship, an ecumenical group for the greater Reading area, where she served one year as assistant treasurer and another as treasurer.

Also surviving is a son, John M. Batchelder, husband of Kristin Kristoff of Bethel Park, PA and a daughter Carol A. (Batchelder), wife of Michael Tolocka of South Heidelberg Township.

There is also a brother, Adrian Van Straten of Redlands, CA and a sister Marie (Van Straten) Luxton of Dulzora, CA.

In addition, there are two grandchildren surviving, Henry and Elaine Tolocka.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:00 am in St. Francis de Sales R.C. Church, 321 N. Church St., Heidelberg Township. Viewings will be held Thursday from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading and Friday from 9:00 - 10:00 am in the Church. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
