Alice A. Knies

Alice Ann Knies, 70 of Laureldale, died June 3, 2008 at 12:25 a.m. in Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, Lancaster County after a long illness.

She was the wife of Robert Carl Knies, Sr., for almost 50 years.

Born September 9, 1937 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, she was a daughter of the late William W. and Jule Ann (Gregory) Swartzman.

Alice was a graduate of Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre in 1955. She then graduated from Wilkes-Barre General Hospital Nursing School in 1958.

Alice was employed as a Registered Nurse for 10 years at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital and 10 years at Community General Hospital, Reading.

She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Laureldale.

Alice was involved in Cub Scout Pack 124, the Truck Crew Wives of Central Fire Company (Laureldale) and U.S. Sub Vets auxiliary.

Services will be private. Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale is in charge of arrangements.

Also surviving are two sons: Robert C., Jr., husband of Lisa Knies of Kentucky and Scott W. Knies of Laureldale.

In addition there is a granddaughter, Kayleigh Ann Knies of Kentucky and a brother Robert Swartzman of Gibbsboro, NJ.

There are also four nieces, and many great nieces and nephews who survive her.
