Alfred Deangelis

Lt. Colonel (U.S. Army Retired) Alfred DeAngelis, 94, of Wernersville, passed away December 9, 2014 in Phoebe Berks.

He was the husband of Frances (Armao) DeAngelis.

Born April 19, 1920 in Reading, he was a son of the late Antonio and Angelina (Ricciardi) DeAngelis and stepson of Catherine (Prezzino) DeAngelis.

Alfred was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during WWII and the Korean War. He served in Korea, Japan, Germany, and Ft. Meade, MD. During his 20 year career with the Army he earned a Bronze Star, Purple Heart and other awards for military excellence. Frances traveled with Alfred during his committed service to the Army, living in Maryland, Kentucky, and Germany.

He was an assistant shipping supervisor for Dana Corporation and also for Luden's Inc., Reading.

Alfred was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola R.C. Church, Whitfield, where he helped with the Sunday collections. He was also a member of the Serra Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Nina M. (DeAngelis), wife of David Rowley, Exeter Township. Also surviving are his sister, Angie, widow of Harold "Sonny" Lintz, Wyomissing; and his two grandchildren: Matthew, husband of Emily Rowley, Havertown; and Katie Rowley, Exeter Township.

He was predeceased by his three brothers, Frank, Nick and Mark.

A Mass in celebration of Alfred's life will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Resurrection at Gethsemane Cemetery, 3139 Kutztown Rd., Laureldale, with burial to follow. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading.
