Alfred T. Consoli, 83 of Greenfields died December 8 at 5:15 a.m. in Reading Hospital where he was admitted earlier in the day.

His wife Mary (Mazur) Consoli died September 13, 2001.

Born in Stony Creek Mills, he was the son of the late Angelo and Victoria (DiMaio) Consoli.

He owned various local businesses in Reading. Consoli founded A.T. Consoli, Inc., Reading, a general contracting company, in 1941. In 1962 he founded ATCO Construction Company, Inc., Reading, a utility contracting company. Consoli sold both A.T. Consoli and ATCO in 1990.

Under Consoli's management, ATCO built the Penn Street Square, part of the Reading Redevelopment Authority in 1973 and 1974. ATCO also built the Court Street Bridge in Reading in 1970.

He founded Diesel Service, Inc., Reading in 1969 and continued to serve as owner and president of the company until his death.

Consoli purchased the Reading Medical Arts Building Corporation in 1972.

He was one of the founding owners of the Heidelberg Country Club, Bernville in 1969 and was an honorary life member of the club.

Consoli was a current member of of the Board of Directors at Gethsemane Cemetery, serving since 1971.

He built an underground golf cart tunnel for the Berkshire Country Club, of which he was a member, in 1985. This tunnel was built under Rte. 183. for safe transportation while playing golf at The Berkshire.

Consoli was the owner of Car #54 at the former Fairgrounds Race Track, Muhlenberg Twp. He was the only car owner to win four track championships. (1966,1967,1969 and 1970) The drivers were Dick Tobias and later Bobby Gerhart.

He was a graduate of Reading High School in 1941.

Consoli was a member of St. Margaret's Roman Catholic Church, Reading.

He is survived by two sons, Alfred T., Jr., Bernville and James W., Downingtown and one daughter, Janel A. Consoli, Reading. Other survivors include two sisters, Mildred (Consoli) Chlebowski, Exeter Twp. and Dora (Consoli) Sherr, Lancaster and 6 grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Margaret's Church and Entombment in Gethsemane Mausoleum will be private. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. in Kuhn Funeral Home, West Reading.
