Alexandra Rae Portner

Alexandra Rae "Lexy" Portner, 19, of Wyomissing, passed away peacefully in her residence surrounded by the loving presence of her family.

Born in Reading, she was the daughter of Gregory L. and Dolores E. (Schoennagel) Portner, with whom she resided.

She was a 2014 graduate of Wyomissing Area High School, where she was named Homecoming Queen her senior year. Lexy continued her education at the Berks Career and Technology Center, currently studying horticulture. Last year she obtained her certificate in landscape design.

Despite Lexy's physical limitations, she had a real zest for life, readily smiling and bringing good cheer to others. She was a generous, kind person, always putting others before herself. Lexy valued her many friends, and through Facebook was better able to communicate with all of them; she cherished those relationships. A big Penn State fan, Lexy looked forward to one day being a student at the university.

She had many interests that included sports and was a staunch supporter of the Eagles, Phillies and Penn State. Lexy attended Vent Camp every June in Millville, PA; this week away spent with others, that lived with similar conditions as her, was a fond memory for her. She was a lover of all animals, in particular, butterflies, hummingbirds and snakes. A lover of nature, Lexy loved to spend time outdoors.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her three siblings, Brant J., a recent graduate of Penn State University; Holly A., wife of George Shattuck, Georgia; and Michele L. Portner, Mt. Penn. Other survivors include her maternal grandparents, Edith and Edward Schoennagel, Wernersville; and paternal grandparents, Betty Portner, Reading, and Walter Portner husband of Connie Aker, Bernville.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading. Reflections on Lexy's life will begin at 8 p.m. Burial will be private.
