Alex J. Wonderlick, Jr., 98, of Hamburg, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2022 at Seton Manor.

Born on December 9th 1923, in Shenandoah, PA, Alex was the son of the late Elick and Stella (Bogden) Wonderlick. As an older teenager, Alex joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and was sent to Washington State to work on conservation projects in the forests there, where he learned to operate bulldozers and heavy equipment.

Alex served as a Sergeant in the US Army Anti-Aircraft Division during WWII. After being discharged on November 11, 1945, he was employed by Kerry, Baxter and Kennedy strip mines. He moved to Philadelphia for various construction projects in 1950, joining IUOE Local 542 and working for many decades with Palmer Rossi Excavating of Philadelphia, PA. Alex was also a member of Goodwill Hose Company and AMVETs in Frackville, Pa., and was active with his sons in Boy Scouts of America in Westbrook Park, Clifton Heights, PA.

Alex was an avid small game hunter, car buff mechanic, and collector of advertising pens along with being the neighborhood handyman and tinkerer, known for never letting anything go to waste. He always asked anyone who visited: "need a good pen?"

He is survived by his two sons, Alex III (Wife Doreen Gleba Wonderlick) and Ronald; granddaughters Faith Wonderlick Bombardier, Hillary Wonderlick McEwan, Victoria Wonderlick; great grandchildren Carrie, Katelyn and Brenden Piaggi, Benjamin and Lilly McEwen; his sister, Veronica Wonderlick Sentz; and his brother, Richard (wife Jane Crosby Wonderlick).

He was predeceased by his wife, Antoinette Wonderlick; and his brothers; Leonard (Lenny), Robert, and Daniel Wonderlick.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 94 Walnut Road, Hamburg. Graveside services will begin at 1:30 p.m. in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hamburg Library's "Children's Reading Hour" in honor of Alex's many years working with the library's children's group to set up their book sale.
