Albert J. Gombar, 68, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at his Shillington home. He was the husband of Robin A. (Domagalski) Gombar. They married on May 16, 1981.

Born in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late Albert and Margaret (Loughlin) Gombar. Al graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1972 and went on to earn a degree in Psychology from Kutztown University in 1978. He was employed as a police officer for the city of Reading for 23 years. Al was dedicated to his job. He worked as a Sergeant in the Vice division before being promoted to Lieutenant. He was also head of the FBI task force post-9/11. He then spent more than 10 years working for Penn State's Berks Campus as an officer. Al was the Vice President of the FOP organization for many years.

Al was a devout Catholic and a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. He was a 3rd Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. Al served as a Eucharistic minister and enjoyed administering communion to the patients at the Reading Hospital Rehab, where he was also a member of the Patient Advisory Board, as well, at that facility.

The biggest joy of his life was playing and drawing with his grandsons, Jacob and William.

Al was an avid sports fan, particularly of Penn State and the Phillies.

Survivors include his loving wife, Robin, son, Timothy Gombar (Rachel) of Orwigsburg, PA, grandchildren, Jacob and William Gombar, and three siblings: Rosemary Carl (Michael) of Mt. Penn; Michael Gombar (Gloria) of St. Lawrence; and Thomas Gombar (Sharon) of Exeter Twp.

Services for Albert will be private.

Al's family would like to thank his neighbors for their support over the past months. They are also grateful for all of the efforts shown by Tower Direct. His fighting spirit and determination, as well as his caring personality touched many people's lives.
