Alan Weidner Yerger, 73, of Oley, died May 25, 2013 in ManorCare Health Services, Muhlenberg Township.

He was the husband of Barbara (Swartley) Yerger whom he would have been married to for 41 years on May 27.

Born April 11, 1940 in Pottstown, PA, he was a son of the late Clarence B. and Erma (Weidner) Yerger.

He was a graduate of Oley Valley High School and Reading Area Community College, where he graduated from in 1977 earning an Associate Degree in Mechanical and Engineering Technology and Drafting.

Alan was employed as a truck body builder with Boyertown Auto Body Works, Boyertown for 15 years and Mack Truck, Allentown for 28 years, retiring in October, 2005.

He was a member of Christ Evangelical Church, Spangsville, where he was active on church council and was a Sunday school teacher, working with the youth.

Alan was a board member of Oley Valley Heritage Association and was also a member of the Historical Society of Berks County and was very interested in the history of the Oley Valley.

He was active in the Boy Scouts for many years attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.

In addition to his wife, surviving are his two children: Joel S., husband of Lindy J. Yerger of Forest, VA and Rachel J. (Yerger), wife of Michael C. Benning of Exeter Township.

Other survivors include three grandchildren: Mason A. and Logan M. Benning and Maya L. Yerger.

Alan was predeceased by a sister, Mary L. Erb.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 325 Covered Bridge Road, Oley (Spangsville), PA 19547. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial will be in Oley Union Cemetery, Spangsville. Blankenbiller Funeral Home, Inc., Oley is in charge of arrangements.
