Alan D. Roth, 61, died April 26, 2011 in his Lower Alsace residence.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late John J. and Mildred E. (Snyder) Roth.
He was a 1968 graduate of Reading High School.
Alan worked for the family run Hessian Camp for Boys. In the summers of 1966 and 1967 he worked for the Reading School District, giving tours to children at the Ferndale Nature Museum. In the late 1960's he worked as a life guard at the French Creek State Park. He attended the Forestry Camp at Stone Valley Recreation Area through the Federated Sportsmen's Club of PA and was employed by Penn State University at Stone Valley Recreation Area while studying ornamental horticulture in the Parks and Recreation Department at the university. In the mid 1970's he was the President of the Mount Penn Conservancy. Alan has been an agra-businessman since 1976 when he started operating Angora Fruit Farm, Reading. He retired from the engineering department of Carpenter Technology in 2002.
He loved to travel and has visited every national park in the country, some repeatedly. He even traveled to the largest wilderness area in the world, Wrangel/St. Elias in Alaska and the Yukon. He has visited Scotland and made six trips to Alaska.
He is survived by his three brothers: Gregory L., husband of Maryjane Roth, Boalsburg; Douglas J. Roth, Reading and Brian J., husband of Holly Roth, Port Charlotte, FL. Also surviving are his nieces: Abigail, KimberLee, Melyssa; his nephew, Alexander and his special relative, Margaret Leardi-Roth.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. in Spring Valley Church of God, 2727 Old Pricetown Rd.,Temple. A viewing will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter Township. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Angora Fruit Farm for the preservation of native species, 502 Angora Rd., Reading, PA 19606. Edward J.
