Adam Becker

Adam Becker, 96, formerly of Cumru Township, died March 18 at 5:20 p.m. in Wyomissing Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where he had been since July 28, 2004.

His wife Theresia (Helmert) Becker died January 19, 1989.

Born in Herdorf, Germany he was the son of the late Peter and Brigitte (Schmidt) Becker.

Becker was first employed by Curtis, Stevens and Embry, Reading later by Berkshire Knitting Mills, Wyomissing and lastly by VF Corp., Wyomissing and Hofmann Industries, Sinking Spring where he operated the printing equipment.

He was a member of St. John Baptist de la Salle Roman Catholic Church, Shillington.

Becker was a life time member of the Reading Liederkranz.

He is survived by one daughter Marie J. Hofmann, Cumru Township. There are also 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Resurrection at Gethsemane Cemetery. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Medical Center 12th and Walnut Streets P.O. Box 316 Reading, PA 19603-0316. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements.
